Why WHD?

The WHD Summer Associate experience can ignite your career in many ways:

Prompt involvement on our team. From your first day forward, you take on important, challenging work. You work alongside accomplished attorneys in depositions, hearings, client meetings, closings and other proceedings. And we count on you to advance clients’ interests in a range of specializations—more than 40 practice areas, from litigation to life sciences to mergers and acquisitions.

Personal attention that firms handling more candidates simply can’t provide. You benefit from an associate mentor and a shareholder advisor who give detailed, constructive feedback on both a scheduled and ongoing basis. So you always know where you stand, and where you still need to go.

An atmosphere of camaraderie. WHD hires only a small number of Summer Associates—and only as many as we hope to hire as attorneys, if they’re a good fit. This practice creates an environment in which WHD Summer Associates help each other learn, and help each other succeed. And they always appreciate that people throughout our firm are approachable, friendly and eager to help their career along.

Our modern workplaces. Although our firm is 60 years old, our offices feature state-of-the-art technology and an energetic, collegial environment.

The chance to make a positive impact in the community. For one week, if you choose to do so, you can enrich your experience by performing pro bono work at your choice of organization, while we pay your salary. Past Summer Associates have spent this time with the State Public Defender’s Office, at the Legal Aid Society and even on our own guardianship project with Children's Hospital.

A balance between your career and your personal life. Working at WHD means working diligently, yet still enjoying your time outside of the office. With regular outings and social events, Summer Associates at WHD often form lasting friendships both inside and outside of work.
