Karen Tidwall Appointed Vice Chair of the Business Litigation Practice Group of ALFA International

Karen Tidwall has been appointed Vice Chair of the Business Litigation Practice Group of ALFA International for 2016 and will Chair the group in 2017. ALFA International’s mission is to provide high quality, cost-efficient legal services wherever our clients need them. The ALFA International model enables our members to use their local expertise to deliver highly effective legal solutions, often drawing upon the collective wisdom and experience of other member firms. Kurt Simatic Appointed Newsletter Editor for DRI’s Governmental Liability Committee

Kurt Simatic has been appointed the Newsletter Editor for Defense Research Institute’s (DRI) Governmental Liability Committee. DRI is the leading organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel. Membership in DRI provides access to resources and tools for attorneys who strive to provide high-quality, balanced and excellent service to their clients and corporations. DRI is host to 30 substantive committees whose focus is to develop ongoing and critical dialogue about areas of practice.

Thomas Vance Recognized as a Member of the 2014 Wisconsin Pro Bono Honor Society

Thomas Vance is being recognized as a member of the 2014 Wisconsin Pro Bono Honor Society by the Milwaukee Bar Association at the Pro Bono Cocktail Reception on Oct. 29. Mr. Vance became a member of the 2014 Wisconsin Pro Bono Honor Society by providing at least 50 hours or qualifying pro bono legal services in 2014 through his work helping low-income taxpayers with cases before the US Tax Court.

William Hughes Elected Chairman and President of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI)

William Hughes was elected Chairman and President of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI), effective immediately. He has served on WPI’s Board since 1999. WPI is a non-profit organization that assists Wisconsin businesses create, develop and grow their federal, state and local government sales, revenues, profits and jobs. WPI is a Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC).

Michael Rogowski to Serve on Wisconsin Crime Victims Council

Michael Rogowski was recently asked by Attorney General Brad Schimel to serve on the Wisconsin Crime Victims Council. The Wisconsin Crime Victims Council is a 15-member body to serve as an advisory body to the attorney general. Council members are appointed by the attorney general to three-ear terms. Of the 15 members, 10 are citizen appointees, two represent organizations that provide victim services, and one each represents law enforcement, district attorneys and the judiciary. Since its inception, the Council has concentrated its efforts on furthering the rights of crime victims and improving the criminal justice response to victims. The Council was instrumental in the creation and passage of Wisconsin’s victims’ rights laws. At the request of the attorney general, the Council conducts research and makes recommendations on issues of importance to victims of crime. The Council also tracks legislation that impacts the criminal justice system. Mr. Rogowski previously served at the request of Attorney General Van Hollen.

Jeffrey Vercauteren appointed to Downtown Madison, Inc. Ad Hoc Inclusiveness Committee

Jeff Vercauteren has been appointed to the Downtown Madison, Inc.(DMI) Ad Hoc Inclusiveness Committee. The committee will investigate, consider, and recommend a process by which DMI will enhance the inclusiveness of its membership and leadership so that the organization and its leadership reflect the full spectrum of cultural richness and viewpoints within the downtown community. The committee will make recommendations to the DMI Executive Committee and the DMI Board of Directors by early September 2015.

Erika Baurecht Elected to Board of Directors of Cream City Foundation

Erika Baurecht has been elected to a three-year term on the Cream City Foundation Board of Directors. Originally founded in 1982 as a spin-off of the Milwaukee-based Cream City Business Association, the Cream City Foundation is celebrating more than 30 years of giving to LGBT communities, mobilizing philanthropic resources to provide over $700,000 in grants to many organizations and projects that work to improve the quality of life for LGBT individuals.

Jordan Corning Elected Dane County Bar Association 2015 President-Elect

Jordan Corning has been elected president-elect of the Dane County Bar Association (DCBA). The DCBA, which has approximately 1,400 members, acts as a liaison between judges and attorneys, works alongside the judges of the Dane County Circuit Court on a number of projects and publicizes pertinent administrative and legal issues in Dane County. Corning assumed this one-year post on June 1, 2015, and he will become president of the DCBA on June 1, 2016.

Melissa Selinger Appointed to Committee for the Wisconsin Uniform Powers of Appointment Act

Melissa Selinger was appointed to the Committee for the Wisconsin Uniform Powers of Appointment Act. This committee is evaluating and drafting adjustments to the Uniform Powers of Appointment Act as promulgated by the Uniform Laws Committee, with an eye toward consideration in the 2016 legislative session and eventual adoption of the act in Wisconsin.

Andy Schlidt Elected Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center

Andy Schlidt has been elected to the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center. Most recently, he served as the Corporate Secretary of the Board of Trustees. The War Memorial Center was born out of the collective vision to create a fitting memorial to honor our Country’s veterans and is Wisconsin’s most visible memorial to all those who have served in the U.S. Armed Services. The War Memorial Center is committed to furthering its mission: “To Honor the Dead by Serving the Living.”

Lydia Chartre Reelected Secretary of the Milwaukee Public Museum Board of Directors

Lydia Chartre has been reelected Secretary of the Milwaukee Public Museum Board of Directors. The Milwaukee Public Museum, one of the largest in the United States, is a museum of human and natural history providing a dynamic and stimulating environment for learning, with exhibits to excite and challenge visitors with a diversity of interests. Lydia’s reappointment offers the Museum another year of excellent service and dedication to its academic mission.

Karen Tidwall To Serve on the Board of Directors of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association

Karen Tidwall was asked to serve as a director on the Board of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association for a three-year term. The EDWBA is dedicated to improving the practice of attorneys appearing before the Eastern District through CLE offerings, publishing an informative e-newsletter and breaking news updates and providing networking opportunities with peers and with members of the bench.

Tiffany Hutchens Appointed to Human Resources Subcommittee of the Associated Builders and Contractor's, Inc. Wisconsin Chapter

Tiffany Hutchens has been appointed to the Human Resources Subcommittee of the Associated Builders and Contractor's, Inc. Wisconsin Chapter. The Associated Builders and Contractor's, Inc. (ABC) is a national trade association for the construction industry which actively promotes the merit shop form of construction. From a modest start in 1950, ABC has enjoyed a growing membership, now totaling more than 22,000 firms nationally and over 800 in the Wisconsin chapter. ABC is comprised of general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and associates. Today, merit shop contractors perform over 70 percent of all construction nationwide.
