Arthur Phillips is a shareholder and leader of the Higher Education Law Team. He is also a member of WHD’s Human Resources Law Practice Group (Employee Benefits Team).
Building on his prior experience as senior associate general counsel with Marquette University, Arthur has advised clients on many issues affecting institutions of higher education, including strategic contract negotiations, trademark and technology licensing agreements, governmental relations, record retention, crisis preparedness and communication, Form 990 reporting compliance, and other regulatory compliance-related matters. In addition, he has counseled in the area of Enterprise Risk Management, including environmental health and safety, internal audit and insurance. Arthur has also worked with college and universities in addressing the legal implications relating to their religiously affiliated missions.
Arthur's diverse experience in benefits and compensation law includes advising clients through IRS and DOL compliance and correction matters. He has interfaced directly with employees, investment managers, trust officers, insurance providers, insurance brokers and third-party administrators relating to the selection, negotiation, communication and implementation of employee benefit programs. He has also counseled and presented seminars on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), fiduciary and plan governance and other current regulatory issues affecting employers.
Arthur began his career with two of the “Big 4” accounting firms as an employee benefits and tax consultant.
